Who’s taking care of our elderly parents?
We are.
The United States of Caregivers
Caregiving isn’t just a challenge facing an individual. It’s an employer issue as well. In the US, more than 1 in 6 working employees are assisting with the care of a family member, most often an elderly family member. That’s a lot of time off-work caring for loved ones.
- According to the AARP, 15% of the American workforce is involved in caring for a loved one — that’s around 24 million people
- 22% of all middle age workers between the ages of 45-64 are caring for a parent.
- But caregivers are not just older workers: 13% are between 18 and 29.
