Is there a list of senior discounts that are available in New York? Sure there is. Everyone likes a good deal, especially seniors. Many billionaires have used coupons or asked for a discount. Why not you? There are so many us that go out and don’t even ask if there is a discount. Why pay full price… for anything? All you have to do is ask. What’s the worst thing that they can say? No. There are so many different discounts that are available, it wouldn’t hurt to even ask which ones they offer.
For example, there are senior discounts (for ages 50 – 65+), Military/Veteran discounts and AARP member discounts. They are all not the same either. Just because you qualify for a senior discount doesn’t mean that you have to take it. You also may qualify for more than one discount. A person could be 65 years old who’s a veteran that is an AARP card member. The establishment may offer a Military/Veteran discount as well and it might be a better offer. I went into a restaurant the other day and I asked them if they had a senior discount. They offered me a 10% discount off my bill. I was thankful, but I asked if they had a military/veteran discount and they did. It was a free drink with my meal. So I took that because it was a $2.25 savings rather than the 10% discount which was approximately $0.70.
Know Before You Go
Just because a national establishment says that they offer a senior discount, it doesn’t mean that it is available at all the locations. Most of these are independently owned and operated, so they don’t have to honor the discount. So call ahead and ask them before you drive all the way there. I get it, 10 or 15% doesn’t seem like much and it’s not worth your time. Look at it this way then. It could make you feel better knowing that discount just paid for the taxes or the gratuity (for OK service). If you went out 2 days a week and saved $2.25 each time, that’s over two hundred dollars a year you are saving.
The Savings
The real savings are when you get the BOGO’s (buy one get one free) or a buy one, get one 50% off. Don’t be fooled by the sound of these offers. One is 50% and the other is 25% off. Still these offers are way better than the normal 10 or 15% discount you can normally get. These offers come in several forms. One way is to sign up for loyalty rewards or email offers. Signing up for these type of offers, sometimes come with a birthday gift offer. Others are from discount ads in local magazines or newspapers that you can cut out. You can share these with a friend or loved one or just take one home for lunch the next day.
